Last night I had the pleasure of seeing the dress rehearsal for “RISD: The Musical!” which I would call “RISD Meets Glee.” I saw Prof. Tom Roberts there — he is one of the faculty members that have seen this completely student-conceived/choreographed/scripted/designed/performed musical come to fruition over Wintersession — he commented at the end of the dress rehearsal, “This has made my year.” I have to agree. I spoke with him last night from here in Providence via telephone to Seattle, and was duly impressed with his background in letterpress, bookmaking, mathematics, and physics — explains his magic quite clearly. New worlds are forming as combinations of older, substantive worlds of knowledge. -JM
